Master Your Metabolism The 3 Diet Secrets to Naturally Balancing Your Hormones for a Hot and Healthy Body

Does it feel as if you’re fighting your body to lose even one pound—or just to maintain your current weight? Respected health and wellness expert and bestselling author Jillian Michaels has been there, too. So she consulted top experts in the field of metabolism and discovered that she’d inadvertently been abusing her endocrine system for years. After “fixing” her own metabolism, she decided to share what she learned by devising this simple, 3-phase plan that engages all the weight-loss hormones (including the friendly HGH, testosterone, DHEA; and the not-so-friendly: insulin, cortisol, and excess estrogen).
In Master Your Metabolism, discover how to:
•REMOVE “anti-nutrients” from your diet
•RESTORE foods that speak directly to fat-burning genes
•REBALANCE energy and your hormones for effortless weight loss
Michaels offers a wealth of information throughout, including: shopping lists and online shopping resources, hormone-trigger food charts, how to eat “power nutrient” foods on a budget, smart strategies for eating out, quick and easy recipes, as well as mini-programs for addressing PMS, andropause, metabolic syndrome, PCOS, and menopause.

5 Stars Absolute *Must read* if you have hormones, metabolism, PMS issues.
Jillian’s book (Master your Metabolism) is incredible. I’ve read countless books, and often nodded my head (yeah I knew it all) - but this… Master Your Metabolism has (so far) blown me out of the water.
I’ve been completely shocked at a lot of what I’m reading. I’m half way through so far and wasn’t going to post until I had actually implemented it 100%, but I felt I had to comment now after reading a few of the negative posts. (Everyone’s entitled to their opinions - but I felt the need to dispel some points).
I think some are completely missing the point… perhaps not actually reading the book (and basing it on the reviews or synopsis as some have admitted), or aren’t taking it in logical stance. (Which seems to be the only bad comments are from those who downloaded it on the kindle rather than buying the full size book with charts, etc.)
1) If you are of normal weight and think this isn’t helpful - Most of us reading this are NOT and are dealing with the exact issues Jillian (and others) have… PMS issues that doctors can’t find answers for… metabolism issues they refuse to look further into (cuz you know, we’re likely just gorging our faces even though we claim we’re not and we’re lazy… )… knowledge is power, and if you’re facing ANYTHING related to hormones and metabolism (very specifically, trouble losing weight!) then this is a MUST READ
2) Frankly while the aspect of eating healthy is a given, MUCH of the information was NOT well known to the extent she’s gone to give it. (Do you know how hard it is to get a referral to a half decent doctor who WILL look further and not brush you off here in Canada anyway?? Often they won’t even look further no matter how much you beg and plead, they tell you to lose weight and you’ll be better. Yeah - DUH… thats why many are seeking help!)
I consider myself to be quite knowledgable on the aspect of healthy food etc. after everything I’ve done and tried and read, but if you’ve ever struggled with weight loss after working out 1-2 hours *per day* faithfully and had it crawl (when you ARE eating perfectly etc etc), and (like Jillian) suddenly gained 10 pounds back for no reason, then this book is absolutely excellent.
Regarding the comments of those who are complaining about Going off the “anti” stuff (okay I’m half way into the book so haven’t totally gotten to that point yet) - frankly is just common sense. If you NEED it, you don’t go off it especially without seeing a dr. first.
Example: I take Claritin sinus for 2 reasons - a) antihistamine - I can’t eat fresh fruit or veggies without it or my throat itches like crazy… b) I was told by my doctor to take the claritin sinus regularly because I’m very prone to sinus infections due to mold/seasonal allergies. So its - I take the antihistimine to be able to eat fresh fruit/veggies… or I get none and have to cook it all (which loses nutrients… salad doesn’t cook well LOL)
If a person is on antidepressants or something that a dr prescribed, they should use their best judgement and incorporate things one at a time… Even Jillian at the beginning of the book very clearly states, use it all, use only some - its your call. (Not her exact words, just paraphrasing).
Eat healthy. Get started. Take control of your life - then gradually you’ll likely be able to get rid of those other things (anti…) And if not, then that’s that.
My point is, Jillian makes it very informative - like anything should be - so you can make an informed decision.
You wouldn’t have a surgery without knowing the risks, etc. - so why on earth would you complain because she recommends going off some of these things? The choice is ultimately yours, by weighing the pros and cons, by working with your dr if needed, and by improving your overall health. (It’s a known fact that many people who are obese or overweight DO go off of many medications once they lose the weight).
Eat healthy, organic as much as you can - its not always possible, but the point is - even eating fresh fruit/veggies/, etc., eating healthier foods even not organic is far better than the chemical laden packaged foods that most of us had NO idea what was seriously in them (even though we thought we understood).
Did you know there were so many different names for MSG? I certainly didn’t! Did you know that some colas (Hint: Even a bottle of gingerale I had in my house for when someone is sick!) contains that BPA(?) chemical that in the sun turns cancerous! EEK!
You think carbonated water and sugar… Most of us have *no idea* what’s truly in the things we eat/drink. This book is an incredible eye opener.
The 6 Week Body Makeover is a great program… I lost the 30 pounds then gradually gained most back… now I know why: while they were on the right track, they totally missed how hormones actually affect you and your metabolism. Several foods the 6WBM “banned”, Jillian is okay with, in moderation of course.
If you use your brains and logic, but gradually implement this, I bet you’ll see a huge difference. I’m half way through the book, beginning to implement, and looking forward to some improvement in my overall health.
Jillian is giving the info *beyond* info to help us tackle everything holding us back.
I haven’t yet bothered to recommend a book on Amazon - but this book should be absolutely everywhere. And no, I’m not a fanatic;) - just finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, finding that there’s actually some legitimate hope, that I’m NOT at my whits end for no reason.
If you don’t own it - buy it - hard copy. Devour it. It’s worth ten times the price in information.
4 Stars kindle review of book
difficult to read charts on kindle because much smaller lighter. print and still too small with zoom feature. loved book but wish i had a hard copy
1 Star Anecdotal information, completely off base.
90% of it is anecdotal from her experiences with her own life. The studies she used were mostly survey studies (that are very inacurate). The She did/ I did comparison between her and her friend (that is perfect and never had a weight problem), isn’t a study at all and it is the basis of the entire book. Just because her friend never ate junk food or fat free/no sugar food “fake foods” and only ate organic food is the reason that she didn’t have screwed up hormone levels.
I am not saying that we shouldn’t be careful of what we eat, but to some degree, there is only so much you can do. I mean you can follow all of Jillians rules, throw out all cleaners, and non organic foods and medicines, but when you go outside and breathe, you are going to breathe in all the toxins that are outside.
I actually feel for Jillian, I myself had screwed up hormone levels when I had them tested. I over exercised and under ate and still hated the way my body looked. I would go and go at the gym for hours, basically I gave my body a beating and still I felt like I needed to lose 15 pounds to like my body. I trained too hard and didn’t feed myself correctly for the movement. I went to the doctor to see if I was hypothyroid. Nope I was just toting the edge, but still in the normal range.
I would cry myself to sleep, out of just pure frustration. One day I came across the Metabolic Repair Manual (http://fatlosstroubleshoot.com) and it completely changed my life. I stopped running my body into the ground and actually started eating twice the amount I had been previously with out gaining weight.
I wouldn’t waste my money on this book if I was you. It is just another book to breed more paranoid people and that doesn’t help anyone. The 2 books I reccommended really teach you about the body and how it works. Move A Little, Lose a Lot teaches you how to become a more active happier person (without having to burn a thousand calories in the gym).
The Body Fat Solution: Five Principles for Burning Fat, Building Lean Muscles, Ending Emotional Eating, and Maintaining Your Perfect Weight
Move a Little, Lose a Lot: New N.E.A.T. Science Reveals How to Be Thinner, Happier, and Smarter
5 Stars Most helpful book I have read
Wow there are so many things to say about this book. I have been going through my stuff and getting rid of things that are bad but for me it will be a slower process. Everything does cost money and most of us can’t just trash everything we have and buy all new stuff. Luckily my family eats pretty healthy anyway so I didn’t have to much to chunk. I agree with a lot of people on here, you can find ways to buy organic there are so many tips in the book about how to find local farmers markets, buying store brand organic, etc. so there are ways if you really want to do it. I also want to start switching out all my paper towels, toilet paper, bath and body products etc to more eco friendly and body friendly. This book has really inspired me to make changes in my life. I thought I was doing good, really. I try and buy eco friendly cleaners etc but I really didn’t know what that meant I guess. Her book is fantastic and it really is a must read for everyone I think. There are so many things that I am learning in this book that I want to do. It really makes you want to take charge of what is going into your body. We aren’t going to do it overnight, it takes work to break habits that we have been doing for so many years. But it is worth it. I agree with everything in her book, we shouldn’t be sticking all of these chemicals in our bodies. She is brilliant and I have become a huge fan of hers. She really does know what she is talking about and she has taken the time to give us the right information. I had no idea she had a problem with her thyroid. That makes me feel so much better. She has hypothyroid and I have Hyperthyroid but just knowing she has helped her thyroid on her plan encourages me to really start getting my stuff together. I can’t wait to be happier and healthier.
5 Stars Another great book
Another great book. Simple and effective. Highly recommended for anybody who’s been struggling with their weight and wants to take control of it once and for all.

Healing Foods Cooking for Celiacs Colitis Crohns and IBS

After previewing Sandras cookbook, my only wish is that Elaine Gottschall was still alive to see this beautiful creation. Her ability or organize the essential ingredients, appetizers, snacks, main dishes, weekly and monthly cooking plans, will give people the confidence they need to heal themselves. Sick children always do better when the entire home is eating healthy. Sandra s book will allow families to eat the most gourmet meals, without spending an enormous amount of time in the kitchen. Thank you for this wonderful book and all your hard work. It was worth the effort! –Pam Ferro, President, Gottchall Autism Centre, Massachusetts
This book is an invaluable addition to the Specific Carbohydrate Diet library. There are many nutritious, delicious and imaginative recipes that will tempt even the most fussy eater. For example, the author goes to some lengths to include some very good recipes for children. The photographs are excellent, and accompany the text well. In particular, the weekly and monthly cooking plans will help those on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet to effectively manage their meals and their cooking. I am very impressed with this book, and I am happy to support its publication. –Matthew Jackson, Moderator of SCDOZ, Australian/NZ SCD Support Group
Sandra Ramacher, from Australia has authored an exceptional SCD cookbook filled with one hundred beautiful photographs of her recipes. (nearly two hundred and all very appealing). Perhaps you are already aware of it. Sandra, who follows SCD, has shared her book with me and invited me to check recipes for compliance and strict adherence to Elaine’s legacy. She was careful to invite other dedicated SCD key people to review it so she could publish with confidence and assurance that the recipes are clear and ingredients legal. It’s a large collection, prefaced with vital information related to cooking and SCD and will have great appeal even outside the SCD community in my opinion. The recipes are in keeping with today’s trends in food, elegant yet simple to prepare. Each photo is worth a thousand bites! –Carol Frilegh, Celiac. (on SCDiet for 7 yrs)

5 Stars yummy
I bought this book the day I started the SCD that my acupuncturist put me on. It has my favorite recipes of the three books I bought that day.
5 Stars Best SCD book out there!
I found this book to be very diverse and well put together. The author obviously took great time in creating and preparing this book. Goes in accordance to the strict SCDiet. I like the fact that not all recipes are of Indian origin, which I found another comparable book to be. Having to feed a child on this particular diet has opened many doors for creativity on my end as well. This is definitely my go to book.
5 Stars Absolutely delicious!
My daughter just started the specific carbohydrate diet and we had been brainstorming on different, yet appetizing foods to work with, especially in the dessert department. When I purchased this book and experimented with the recipes we were both extremely happy with the end results. The recipes make it easy to create mouth watering, delicious and creative meals! I had used several of the recipes for Thanksgiving and family members were intrigued and I will say, very surprised, that the taste of the food was “normal”; which I think is a major misconception with this diet. Instead of focusing on the “cannot haves” we focus on the “can haves”! Thank you so much for making the transition into SCD land easier!
5 Stars Healing foods
Really enjoyed looking through this book can’t wait to start using it but it makes it hard when there are so many to choose from.
5 Stars Excellent and necessary addition to the SCD library!
The photos in this book are exceptional. The recipes are delicious. This cookbook is a must for anyone who wishes to augment their SCD cooking library. The Specific Carbohydrate Diet has completely healed me of Crohn’s Disease. I have been free of disease for over 5 years and am taking no prescription medications, all thanks to this diet. This diet is the only way to control my chronic diarrhea.
Ageless The Naked Truth About Bioidentical Hormones
Ageless The Naked Truth About Bioidentical Hormones

Can you really feel better as you get older?
Is aging without illness possible?
Is your own internal fountain of youth waiting to be discovered?
Yes, yes, and YES! says Suzanne Somers, the bestselling author of The Sexy Years. It can all be true when you take advantage of the new science of antiaging medicine—a revolutionary approach to achieving the ageless life.
Suzanne Somers introduced millions of women to bioidentical hormone replacement therapy and changed the way we look at menopause with her groundbreaking book, The Sexy Years, and the overwhelming media response to its publication. Now, in Ageless, Suzanne introduces an inspiring, medically validated approach to reversing the aging process and maintaining a healthy, vibrant, mentally sharp, sexually active life—while building the body’s natural defenses against age-related diseases.
Ageless is jam-packed with new, updated information on bioidentical hormone replacement and antiaging that will change your life forever. Suzanne talks about:
• Antiaging medicine and how it can help work against the environmental assault that is making us sick, including how to detox the body of harmful pollutants and chemicals and strengthen our weakest glands and organs
• Menopause, which can become an enjoyable passage once the body is in perfect hormonal sync with bioidentical hormone replacement therapy
• The dangers of perimenopause and how women can treat it
• Why so many hysterectomies are unnecessary, how birth control pills may have contributed to the rise of hysterectomies, and how to restore your body to perfect hormonal balance after having one
• How andropause is a real condition for men, and how men can lose weight, regain their youthful physiques, and restore heath, energy, and sexuality, all through bioidentical HRT
• The importance of sleep and the healing work that nature does during this time to balance hormones and increase energy
In this “antiaging bible,” Suzanne brings together prominent, Western-trained antiaging doctors who are at the forefront of a medical revolution to show how the traditional medical approach is woefully inadequate and outdated. Its standard of care has been to treat all symptoms with drugs, but in Ageless you will find out how this approach does not make us better. With antiaging medicine you can heal your body rather than keep a chronic condition at bay with drugs. Ageless shows you how to keep your “insides” young, and how this manifests on the outside.
What could be better than having your doctor tell you that you have the bones of a twenty-year-old, or the heart of a thirty-year-old? You can be young on the inside if you follow the advice in Ageless. Suzanne reveals the secrets to youthfulness that everyone can achieve and shows us all how to live the ageless life!
How young is your energy?
“The second half of your life can be better than your first half. A better life, a healthier life, a life of youthful energy comes from embracing antiaging medicine, and bioidentical hormone replacement is a big component. . . . The second half of life can be wonderful. I know it because I am living it. This new approach to health gives you back your lean body, shining hair, and thick skin, provided you are eating correctly and exercising in moderation. This new medicine allows your brain to work perfectly and offers the greatest defense against cancer, heart attack, and Alzheimer’s disease. Don’t you want that?” —From the Introduction

5 Stars Very Informative
I normally can’t sit down long enough to read a book, but I found this very interesting and informative. She really makes you stop & think about your surroundings & lifestyle. I have gathered a lot of information for my family & friends to discuss with their doctors. It is a must read book.
4 Stars This book is anti-vegetarian
I have been a vegetarian for 3 years and it has balanced my hormones for the most part - naturally. I feel much better as a vegetarian and I’ll never go back to meat or dairy. I believe Suzanne is accurate in most things, but I don’t agree with the way she dealt with vegetarianism. The book says accurately that you need a high-fiber diet to get rid of excess bad estrogen, yet she recommends meat and dairy, which have no fiber or healthy phytochemicals. Meat has a place in this world for survival purposes, but meat is not necessary for optimal health.
The vegetarian woman in the book with health problems was on birth control pills, etc. One doctor said vegetarians don’t make enough cholesterol and therefore don’t make enough hormones. There are many unhealthy meat-eaters. Just because some meat-eaters are unhealthy, does that mean all meat-eaters are eating an unhealthy diet?
Suzanne eats meat, yet she still needs BHRT. If meat-eaters had all this wonderful cholesterol to make all these hormones in the body then they wouldn’t need BHRT. The book implies it’s best to eat a meat and dairy diet, but I don’t see any real evidence to support this thinking. All people, regardless of their diet need BHRT at some point for an optimum life. It seems like it’s usually meat-eaters who have hormone imbalances. When meat-eaters in the book have hormone problems, Suzanne never attacks a meat-eating diet. But if a vegetarian has a hormone problem, of course, it’s partly because of vegetarianism.
I recommend AGELESS to men and women of all ages. I think Suzanne is a great person and she should be honored for all she has done because I doubt she needs the money. Thank you, Suzanne.
5 Stars Ageless
My husband & I found this book to be very good in its information on Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy and understanding what it is and does. Suzanne interviews many doctors and gets the feedback from them on this fairly new idea for hormones. Excellent reading and highly recommended.
5 Stars AnonymousThis is an excellent book. I would highly recommend it for both men and women.
Anyone interested in the subject of Bioidentical Hormones should read this book. I have read other books on the subject by medical doctors and her book is very easy to read and understand the subject. She is not just writing about it, she has lived it. I also highly recommend Stop the Age Clock: Look 20 Years Younger, 20 Pounds Lighter and 200% Prettier in Only 20 Days Worth reading!
5 Stars I needed this book 20 years ago.
I’m 66 and have had menopausal problems for 20 years. This book was an eye-opener, especially the information about bio-identical hormones. It has good references about how to find a doctor who has a clue. I have referred this book to my daughters and daughter-in-law in the hope that they won’t have to suffer like I have. I love Suzanne and her earthy style of writing!
